Reasons Why Organic Foods are Expensive

If ponders over it, it’s amazing that organic foods are expensive. Why should it be? For the fact that they no added supplements it makes it difficult to understand why they should be expensive. However, little facts when looked at will explain why organic foods are expensive.

 Organic Foods First of all, these foods are limited in quantity. Production is lesser than traditional foods because of the time it takes for them to grow. Hormones which are added to traditional foods speed up growth of foods. This material and in fact other foreign materials are not included in organic foods meaning that the foods grown organically will use the full cycle they need to grow. This therefore reduces the number of organically grown foods on the market.

With the low number of organic foods and the high demand for them on the market the prices hitch up. Here the laws of economics are put into play. Where sellers see that a product is high in demand and the amount is low, they will increase the prices because they know that buyers are willing to pay anything to buy quality products.

Additionally, the prices of these foods increase because of the stages it passes through before getting on the market. On the production side, the cost of production forces the price to be raised. Then in the processing unit, the cost involved increases the price further. Then it goes through the harvesting section where process involves incurs an extra cost. Then the transportation from place of production to marketplaces increases the price even further. Finally at the marketing place, the sellers add to the already increased price to make profit from their business. Hence, the product’s price has increased dramatically considering the stages it passes through.

This goes a long way to showing that things that are good for the human body do not come cheap but come at an extra cost that one has to be willing to pay for.
